University Standing Committees — Section II

Committees whose membership is appointed by the President, elected, or composed by other means. Unless specified by an asterisk (*), recommendations for membership on these committees will be approved by the Committee on Committees, and these committees will be included in the faculty/staff committee preference survey. The criteria for designation as a Section II Committee include:

  • The committee serves primarily to advise a specific program or office.
  • The membership of the committee is primarily elected.
  • The composition and duties of the committee are mandated by federal guidelines or by published University policies.

University Standing Committees — Section III

To improve communication and coordination between and among units, the University has created a number of Administrative and/or Coordinating Councils. These Councils play an important role in the execution and development of policy. Because of their importance in day-to-day operations of the University, liaison relationships have been established between many of these Councils and appropriate Standing Committees and well as the Faculty Senate. The Provost/Academic Vice President meets regularly with the Faculty Senate President to discuss the agenda and conclusions of the Dean's Council. The Councils supplement the role of Standing Committees in the formulation of policy.

When submitting committee minutes, annual reports, or task force reports to the web site, please:

  • E-mail your document to the Faculty Senate Administrative Secretary: Linda Knowles (348-6635), lknowles@cba.ua.edu
  • Send your document in html format or as text-only (with line breaks). To create html format from a Word document, use File ... Save As ... html.
  • Put the filename in the subject line of your e-mail to the Administrative Secretary.
  • Construct the filename from the the committee abbreviation (see tables above), the type of document ("min" for minutes, "ann" for annual reports, "rpt" for other reports), and the date of the document (in year-month-day order, so the files will appear by date). Examples:
    • itc-min040830.html (or .txt for text-only) for ITC minutes from August 30, 2004
    • itc-ann040728.html for the ITC's annual report dated July 28, 2004
    • itc.html for the annual roster and charge, generated in the President's office
