Duties
Advise the University administration, especially the offices of Student Affairs and Financial Affairs, on all matters pertaining to campus safety and security on the campus in general, and in particular student safety and security within and around the residence halls, fraternity/sorority houses, recreation facilities, library, Ferguson Center, and student parking lots. Specifically, this committee is responsible for the following:
- Review, evaluate, and provide recommendations on campus safety and security on the University campus to the University administration;
- Promote student safety and security awareness programs on a continuing basis;
- Promote appropriate transportation systems when and where warranted;
- Evaluate and ensure that appropriate safety infrastructure (lighting, emergency phones, etc.) is available and operational.
Composition
This committee shall consist of seventeen voting members, including three faculty and two staff representatives, a Faculty Senate representative, a Professional Staff Assembly representative, a faculty representative from the Student and Campus Life Committee, eight student representatives or alternate student representatives, and a Retired Faculty/Staff Representative. There shall be eight liaison members. The chairperson of the committee shall be chosen from the at-large faculty representatives. Specifically, the committee shall be composed of the following:
Facultv and Staff Members: Faculty Senate Representative, Faculty Representative from Student and Campus Life Committee, Three Faculty Representatives, and Three Staff Representatives.
Student Members: two representatives from Greek affairs, Residence Hall Association Representative (Men’s), Residence Hall Association Representative (Women’s), a Student Government Representative, and two Graduate Student Association Representatives.
Liaison Members: University Department of Public Safety Representative, Office of Student Development, Housing and Residential Communities Representative, Building/Grounds/Maintenance Department Representative, Facilities Planning and Design Services Representative, Women's Studies Representative, Women's Resource Center Director, the Coordinator for Health, Education and Wellness, and an Office of Health and Safety Representative.
